We are considering getting a campsite for our trip to nationals instead of going for a hotel. Would people familiar with the area have any campground recommendations?

You are correct in that there are no great public campgrounds within a few minutes of the park where Nationals is held. We really like our County operated campground and beach at Coon Forks, it's a 40 minute drive to and from the action. You get to go by the world's first cheese factory on a semi trailer, a great drive-in restaurant, and several bars and breakfast spots along the way.

I know of some nice pastures minutes from the soccer park. If you are a tent camper or off-grid RV I can ask around and try to find you a place to drop a tent or park your rig.

We looked into this a bit and it wasn't a great option for us. Most of the camping options were a 15+ minute drive from the action. Figured the driving overhead would be not so fun.
